Do Big Things: God Didn’t Create You for Average — He Created You for Impact
God’s purpose, doing big things, faith-based motivation, Christian inspiration, Douglas Vandergraph, purpose-driven life, living with impact, overcoming fear, trusting God, purpose and calling.
You were never meant to live a small life.
You were never designed to just get by.
You were created by a God who builds galaxies, parts seas, and raises the dead — and that same God placed within you the capacity to do big things.
It’s not arrogance to believe that. It’s obedience.
You were called for more than comfort, equipped for more than survival, and anointed for more than mediocrity. The world doesn’t need more people who play it safe; it needs believers who walk by faith.

1️⃣ The Call to Rise Beyond Average
Let’s be honest — “average” feels safe.
It doesn’t challenge us. It doesn’t require faith.
It doesn’t hurt.
But comfort zones don’t produce calling.
When Jesus called Peter to walk on water, it wasn’t to prove Peter’s courage — it was to show him what happens when ordinary people trust an extraordinary God.
The Bible doesn’t celebrate those who played it safe. It celebrates those who stepped out of boats, left fishing nets, and carried crosses.
God never called anyone to live average — He called them to live available.
The world tells you to chase comfort. The Gospel tells you to chase purpose.
“For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10
You were created with intentionality. Every talent, every passion, every story — all designed for impact.
2️⃣ Stop Waiting for “Someday” — The Time Is Now
How many dreams die because we’re waiting for “someday”?
Someday when we have more money.
Someday when we have more time.
Someday when we feel ready.
But “someday” is the thief of calling.
God doesn’t need your perfection — He needs your participation.
Moses stuttered. Gideon doubted. David failed. Peter denied.
But every one of them stepped forward anyway.
The key difference between those who talk about change and those who live it is simple: movement.
Your next step doesn’t need to be perfect — it just needs to be forward.
3️⃣ Faith Over Fear — Why Courage Comes from Trust
Fear whispers, “What if you fail?”
Faith whispers, “What if God shows up?”
When you trust God with your next step, you unlock doors that fear can never open.
Psychologists at Harvard found that courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s the ability to act in spite of it (Harvard Business Review, 2021). Faith operates the same way.
God doesn’t wait for you to be fearless — He teaches you to trust through trembling steps.
Even if your knees shake, step forward.
Because it’s often in your weakest moments that God shows His strongest hand.
4️⃣ You Are Chosen for More Than Comfort
If you’re feeling restless, that’s not frustration — it’s calling.
The Holy Spirit disturbs comfort to awaken purpose.
There’s a quote from C.S. Lewis that says, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
That’s the invitation God gives daily: to start now.
You weren’t designed to coast through life. You were chosen to carry influence that points others to Him.
Your job, your voice, your story, your pain — all of it has purpose.
As the Christian Research Institute teaches, calling is never random; it’s rooted in divine design. Every believer’s story carries the DNA of the Creator.
5️⃣ The Power of One Obedient Step
We often underestimate small beginnings.
But throughout Scripture, God used the smallest acts of obedience to create the largest waves of change.
- A shepherd boy’s sling defeated a giant.
- A widow’s two coins rewrote the meaning of generosity.
- A fisherman’s “yes” built the early church.
The world defines success by size; God defines it by surrender.
Take the step He’s calling you to take — even if it’s uncomfortable.
6️⃣ Big Things Begin Small
Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
Every major move of God started with one step of faith from someone who was scared but willing.
Maybe today your “big thing” is forgiving someone.
Maybe it’s starting a project.
Maybe it’s praying out loud for the first time.
It doesn’t matter how small it looks — God measures faith, not visibility.
As Crosswalk.com notes, “God uses ordinary acts of obedience to bring extraordinary results.”
7️⃣ Faith Expands Your Capacity
Fear limits you to what you can control.
Faith opens you to what God can do.
When you surrender control, you make space for miracles.
The Apostle Paul said it best: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
In other words, your weakness isn’t disqualifying — it’s qualifying.
The difference between average and anointed isn’t skill; it’s surrender.
8️⃣ Trust God to Multiply Your Reach
God doesn’t need you to do everything; He just needs you to do something with Him.
When you move in faith, He multiplies what you give.
Five loaves and two fish fed thousands because one boy was willing to share what he had.
Your faith works the same way — you bring what little you have, and God makes it more than enough.
9️⃣ Overcoming the Lie of “I’m Not Enough”
Many people hesitate because they feel inadequate. But inadequacy is the soil where faith grows best.
According to Psychology Today, self-doubt is not a sign of weakness — it’s a sign that you’re stretching beyond your comfort zone.
The moment you rely on God instead of your abilities, you begin to operate in divine strength.
You’re not supposed to be “enough” on your own — because He is enough through you.
🔟 How to Activate Your Calling
Pray less about knowing the whole plan and more about taking the next step.
Here’s a framework you can apply right now:
- Ask for clarity. “Lord, what’s one thing You want me to do today?”
- Listen for direction. God’s voice often sounds like conviction mixed with peace.
- Move quickly. Obedience delayed is impact delayed.
- Trust completely. He won’t show you the whole path—just enough to move.
As Focus on the Family puts it, “God rarely gives us the blueprint; He gives us the next brick.”
11️⃣ Impact Comes Through Imperfect Progress
Don’t wait until you feel holy enough, ready enough, or smart enough.
Just move.
Progress in God’s kingdom doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from persistence.
Every time you step, you learn to trust Him more. Every time you move, you grow stronger in faith.
Consistency is the companion of calling.
12️⃣ From Survival to Significance
God didn’t rescue you to keep you safe; He rescued you to set you in motion.
Your pain can become your platform. Your struggle can become your story.
When you look at your scars and see God’s fingerprints, that’s when your life starts transforming others.
As the Barna Group found, people are more influenced by authentic faith stories than by polished sermons. Your story matters more than you realize.
13️⃣ Legacy: Living Beyond Yourself
Doing big things isn’t about fame — it’s about faithfulness.
Legacy isn’t leaving something behind; it’s sending something forward.
When you live with impact, your influence outlives you.
“David served God’s purpose in his generation, and then he fell asleep.” — Acts 13:36
That’s what it means to live successfully: serve your purpose in your time.
14️⃣ The Ripple Effect of Faith
You may never know how far one act of obedience travels.
A simple prayer, a quiet word, a generous gift — they ripple across time.
Like stones in water, faith-filled actions create waves that outlast the moment.
As Mother Teresa said, “We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”
That’s where the extraordinary begins.
15️⃣ Rise — Even When It’s Hard
Some days, doing big things just means not giving up.
Faith doesn’t promise comfort. It promises meaning.
When life pushes back, push forward.
When doors close, pray harder.
When doubt screams, worship louder.
Your endurance is your testimony.
16️⃣ From Fear to Freedom
Fear always tries to shrink what faith is expanding.
But freedom comes when you choose obedience over hesitation.
Every time you act on God’s word, you break another chain of fear.
As the American Bible Society notes, “Trusting God releases peace that human reasoning can’t replicate.”
17️⃣ Courage Is Contagious
When you step forward, others take courage from your movement.
Your faith becomes a catalyst for someone else’s obedience.
Your boldness becomes permission for someone else’s bravery.
You don’t just do big things for yourself — you do them for everyone watching you.
18️⃣ Building Momentum in Faith
Momentum grows when you combine trust with action.
The more you move, the more God multiplies.
Faith isn’t static; it’s kinetic. It grows through motion.
As you walk forward, you create spiritual momentum that heaven partners with.
19️⃣ The Promise of Multiplication
When God finds someone willing, He always multiplies.
He multiplied Abraham’s descendants.
He multiplied Joseph’s influence.
He multiplied Paul’s ministry.
He’ll multiply your obedience too.
But first, you have to move.
20️⃣ The Prayer of Purpose
Father, I surrender my fears, my excuses, and my plans. I believe You created me for impact, not comfort. Give me the courage to step where You’re calling me, even when it’s hard. I trust that You will multiply what I give and turn my obedience into impact. Use me to do big things that bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
21️⃣ A Final Word of Encouragement
Stop letting fear define your limits.
Stop believing the lie that you’re not qualified.
You are called. You are chosen. You are equipped.
The time is now.
Step forward — even if your knees shake.
Your purpose is bigger than your fear.
Your calling is stronger than your doubt.
Your faith is more powerful than anything standing in your way.
You were made for more.
So rise. Move. Believe.
Do BIG things for God.
